Observing the Relationships of People at the Beach
Today I spent the day driving all around Houston and then headed out to the coast in search of a story to capture. What I found was the story of human interaction as observed from the voyeur’s perspective. I only watched people from behind and didn’t interact with them to keep a distance myself. An interesting dynamic occurs between the people when the sounds that they create between each other are muffled by the crashing of waves became intriguing to me. When people couldn’t hear each other when they spoke because of the sounds of the ocean their proximity to each other seemed to drift. They were still connected but they did so with gestures, smiles and even watched one another without speaking from afar. It was a peaceful day of observing intimacy of couples and families even though the rarely spoke to each other or were even near each other.
